Propecia (finasteride) is efficient for patients losing their hair because of high amounts of a hormone known as DHT (dihydrotestosterone). Although Propecia has not been reported to have any drug interactions tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking, whether they have been prescribed by another doctor or you purchased them over the counter. Any vitamins and supplements you are taking also need to be reported. Propecia is FDA pregnancy category X – it can be extremely dangerous to the health of an unborn baby. Pregnant or breastfeeding women must not take Propecia or touch crushed tablets as finasteride can be absorbed through skin. Some people report sudden weight gain when starting to take Propecia. There are no known drug interactions with Propecia, but you still need to inform your doctor about taking any other medicines simultaneously with it. Take this medicine as prescribed by your health care provider with a full glass of water, with or without food. Only if you take Propecia regularly will you be able to achieve the best result. You will be required to take this drug for a long time. Once you stop the treatment all the hair you have managed to re-grow will be lost within a one year period.
